We Are Fucked, Sunshine!

How do people live in a country that is affected by collapse, despair an chaos? Through intensive conversations with friends, the Greek film maker draws an intimate portray of al lost generation in crisis-shaken Greece – honest, uncompromising, sometimes funny but always disillusionig.
The Greek film maker Despina Grammatikopulu, who grew up in Germany, travels to her home country to accompany her friends who live near Thessaloniki in their crisis-shaken everyday life. In open and honest conversations between the 'German child' and her friends, the movie shows a disillusioning portrait of a lost generation from which every hope for a future was taken.
Far from clichés about the European crisis and far from all the reports, which deal with the amount of Greece's burden of dept, the documentary shows a human, personal face of the financial crisis. With mixed emotions the movies illustrates that the crisis is no abstract concept but that it has very concrete consequences on individual life plans.
Katerina and Giannis (both 38) just became parents when Giannis lost his job. With all their strength they try to keep up their optimism and to face the new situation. Even if this means that they have to leave home soon.
Rodi (33) struggles with her pathetic salary as a graphic designer. The existential fear draws her into depression, which she can hardly escape without a better prospect for the future. But nonetheless she was able to preserve a spark of fighting spirit.
Giorgos (38), who grew up and studied in Germany, came back to his parents' village ten years ago. Here, he feels at home. He wants to stay, come what may. Convinced of communistic ideals, Giorgos faces the labour dispute. In the end the crisis provides a chance to change the future for the better.
